Fur & Feather Match River Derwent Matlock &Matlock Bath
This years fur and feather match took place on the River Derwent for the first time in a few years after heavy rains had forced a switch to the ponds previously. The river had risen overnight and coupled with the problem of lots of leaves in the water didnt make it an easy day for the 40 anglers taking part in the clubs biggest match of the year. The match was fished from the Snitterton Stretch down to Matlock bath with some sections producing more fish than others. In a close finish Rick Needham took the honours with an all grayling net of 5lbs 10oz on Peg 63 just ahead by 3oz from second placed Gary Barfoot with 5lbs 7oz from Peg 77. In third and at last enjoying a match on the river was Dave Fowler with 5lbs 1oz 8 drams from Peg 60.Thanks must go to the match secretary Asa Cooper who put in a lot of work organising and running this match, and to the Horseshoes Matlock Green for providing the venue for the draw and breakfast and buffet after the match.Although some anglers didnt catch on the day most enjoyed a hard days fishing on the river.

Matlock AC teams interest in this years competition ended at the semi final stage with the team of six coming 15th with only the top seven teams going through to this years final. A bad draw made even worse by the uneven pegging out of the lakes ,plus one or two of the teams regulars missing ,it was always going to be an uphill struggle to qualify for the final. The team fished well to reach this stage and credit to them for the time, travelling and expense in representing the club in this competition.
