JUNIOR SECTION

This section of the website is aimed at the junior members of the club. It is hoped in the coming year to improve the junior section and the committee has looked at providing not just a junior match a year ,but to offer coaching to the younger anglers in the club with acredited coaches providing help and advice to Junior members. From this year the junior subscriptions have changed (see subscription section) with the hope of encouraging more juniors to take up ,but more importantly keep fishing and improve their enjoyment by catching more fish. Events are being planned for the coming summer so watch this section for further information . Any junior who would like to submit anything to this section is welcome please send to rik4981@aol.com for inclusion.

Junior Coaching Day  1st August 2009

This years junior coaching event was held on Saturday 1st August 2009 at Tansley Pond and despite the rain  there was a great turnout of fourteen juniors. This event was open to none members of the club as well as the current junior members and was supported well by the officials of the club . Fishing started around 10am with tackle again supplied by the Environment Agency which those participating were allowed to keep .Despite the damp conditions and having to fish from underneath umbrellas, everyone of the juniors caught fish ,mainly roach and perch but some caught bream, tench and even the odd crucian carp. A break at dinner time involved a  free draw for fishing tackle and each of the paticipants were given a baseball hat by the angling club.

A highly successful event ended around 3pm with some of the juniors still catching fish around the pond ,many thanks to all who attended ,the Environment Agency for supplying the fishing kits and most of all those who helped on the day despite the weather ,with hopefully new anglers getting hooked !.

Junior Coaching Day Report

Matlock Angling Club held its first junior coaching day at Tansley pond on the 30th August 2008 . The response for the event was a suprise to the organisers with 25 booking in for the event and others having to be put on a list for the next coaching date . On the day extra juniors turned up and were squeezed onto the pond with a total of 27 girls and boys taking part. The event started at 10am with all the juniors being given a starter fishing kit and after finding a place on the pond were given help to get fishing by three qualified angling coaches and the assistance of club officials Dave Thornley and Rick Cantrill .The fish in the pond helped by being in a hungry mood and soon there were fish coming onto the bank including a 3 and a half pound carp ,which was landed by a total beginner. This was followed by others catching some good perch ,roach and bream and one junior had a nice tench at around two pounds and another a chub around a pound and a half.

At dinner time most of the juniors around the pond had caught fish ,and after dinner the ones who hadn't were given extra help, resulting in all the participating juniors catching something.

There was a  free raffle draw for items of fishing tackle to go along with the starter kits which all the juniors took away with them.

A highly successful event ended around 3 pm with some of the juniors still catching fish around the pond and wanting to stay all day!,Many thanks to the coaches who attended ,all three having travelled some distance to be there ,the Environment Agency for supplying the fishing kits and tackle for the raffle and most of all those who attended and helped on the day ,with several juniors joining the club and a couple of the dads ,this turned out to be a great day for all ,with hopefully new anglers getting hooked !.
