Anglers put on alert over killer carp disease - use dry nets!
Anglers and fishery owners are being warned to be on their guard following outbreaks of the Koi Herpes Virus - a killer carp disease for which there is no known cure. The outbreak could lead fishery owners to introduce stricter controls over the use of landing nets and keepnets, with anglers having to use only dry nets or nets which have been disinfected for 15 minutes or more and then thoroughly rinsed.

16/03/2008

A few members of the club have made a start on clearing trees and tidying up at Cawdor ponds ,Peg 9 has been removed (wooden platform) and a tree in the small pond which had been uprooted during the recent winds removed and thinned back, and the other bushes on the small pond cut back.On the larger pond the trees have been trimmed back and work is ongoing on pegs 19 and 18 . Please be aware that the pathway between the ponds is very slippy on the old bitumen blocks hopefully when we replace the wooden platforms we can also sort this pathway out and remove the problem. If anyone has a spare hour or two there are branches around pegs 4 to 8 which need moving to the ever growing pile between the two ponds. It is hoped to plant some lillies in the small pond soon so if you see plastic drums in one of the corners please dont remove them as they are to protect the plants from the ducks until they take hold.

The peg numbers at Tansley are being replaced with wooden numbers, please keep an eye on them in case anyone removes any (if they do please email me and I will put a new one up).

If you have a spare hour or two and wish to do some work at the ponds please contact Asa Cooper 01629 650946 or R Cantrill 01629 57268 and they will pass on what the next jobs for improving the waters are.

Below is an email I received after an enquiry regarding the clubs waters

Forgot to tell you-my lad had a great day at Matlock Bath-between 3 of them they caught 8 grayling,8 brownies,a roach and 2 big 5lb chub. Plus my lad hooked something that just swam in circles on the bottom for 10 minutes before breaking off. I guess a decent barbel. It must be 15 years since I fished there but the big coarse fish weren't in evidence then. Having said that, 2 of his mates came back a week later and caught 1 grayling between them all day.....must be the moon phase....

All the pegs at Tansley have now been replaced or repaired and the end of the pond has been cleared near peg 1. The water level is low at the moment due to a small leak around peg 1/2 hopefully this will be repaired this week and the water level raised. Steps down to pegs 20,21 and 22 will also be put in and the pathways around the pond improved during the next few weeks.
