With the sun finally starting to show, both Tansley and Cawdor are fishing really well, with some big weights of silver fish and carp coming out of Cawdor and also good silver fish nets from Tansley.
With the opening day for the river fast approaching, now is the time to be walking the banks and looking for those best swims, hope you all have a good summer's fishing and don't forget to let us know of any big fish you catch.
We are having a working party at Cawdor on the 27th April, Saturday afternoon, this will be a general clean up, litter pick and pruning back of trees. Any one who can spare a few hours would be made welcome. Please remember it`s your club and this work is for every ones benefit.
The latest meeting took place on the 5th April. There was a discussion with regards to day tickets at Matlock Bath, the paper shop that sold the tickets for the club has closed and another could not be found. After arguing all the pros and cons, it was voted to finish the day tickets and make all club waters available to members only. The strimmer and pruning saw has been purchased and already been put to use. The new signs have started to be put up by Nigel Ellis and are looking really good. It was reported that canoes are using our land at Darley Bridge as a launching area, to try and stop this it was voted to erect fencing and put up new signs to try and put a stop to it. The club is a member of the Angling Trust, this provides various benefits including a public liability insurance.
Spring is here, 6" of snow and freezing conditions, it can only get better. Just a couple of things, Firstly a reminder that we are now into the closed season for the river and you can only fish with , FLY, LEGGERED WORM OR SPINNING ROD, PLEASE COMPLY WITH THESE RULES AS YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE BY OUR BAILLIFFS IF YOU ARE CAUGHT USING ANY OTHER METHOD. Secondly, we are organising a working party to have a general clean up around the ponds, litter pick, tree pruning, etc, all help would be appreciated will post date as soon as it is confirmed
It is with great sadness, that the club has lost one of its most liked members. Gordon Hartwell passed away after a short illness. Gordon was a regular competitor on most club matches for many years and loved his trips over to Ireland. The highlight of Gordans fishing was winning the senior national outright. You will be sadly missed Gordon by all who knew you.
New signs have been ordered for all club waters and will be put up in the near future.
A lot of work has been done on the canal by M Wain and he reports that the fishing is improving, with a bream of 5lbs been caught and roach upto a 1lb on bread punch. Why not try something different and give it a try.
Tansley is fishing quiet well through this cold snap, with good weights of roach and perch being caught,
This years restocking took place on the 10/02/13, two thousand five hundred roach, four to six inches in size were put in the river at Matlock Bath and one hundred chub, four to eight inches. Also one hundred chub of the same size were put in the Cawdor stretch.

We can also confirm that, 200 Chub and 2,500 Roach have been ordered for this years restocking, at a cost of £1,800. These fish will be stocked into the river in March by Mainstream Fisheries.
It was also passed to purchase, one strimmer and one extendable pruning saw, for the maintance of club waters, this will be around £1000 and will be for the use of all members on working parties(to be arranged soon all volunters welcome)
New signs are to be made and errected on the Matlock Bath stretch to clearly state, this is club owned waters and that Day tickets must be purchased to fish this length of river.

Due to extreme weather, Cawdor pond has flooded again, the club is working hard to try and resolve this ongoing problem and ask all members to be patient whilst a long term solution can be found. (the main cause of the problem is an increase of water entering the pond). It has been brought to the directors attention that some members are not happy with the situation, if you do have a complaint, please contact Gary Slack (club secretary) and you will be invited to put your views to the directors at the next committee meeting
